About

I was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2012. My interest is in criminal law and public interest cases. As a criminal defence lawyer, I deal with the issues surrounding an arrest, a criminal investigation, criminal charges, sentencing, appeals, and post-trial issues. My duties include:

• Meeting clients (often in stressful circumstances) via telephone or in person, to take instructions, explain the law, outline possible outcomes, and advise on plea and strategy.

• Visiting police stations, prisons or detention centres to interview the suspects or the accused person, and ensure procedures are lawful.

• Representing suspects who are detained during the investigation stage.

• Reviewing and analysing evidence (CCTV, phone records etc) and documentation related to an offence and the case (including witness statements, police reports, forensic reports, medical records etc)

• Representing the accused person in all stages of a criminal prosecution: bail applications, mitigation, cross-examine witnesses, and make submissions to judges.

• Researching, planning and investigating matters

• Drafting legal documents and instructing experts

• Establishing a compelling defence for the accused

• Visiting clients at the detention camps for deportation matters.

• Liaise with prosecutors, enforcement authorities, probation, counsel, court staff, expert witnesses and sometimes the media.
