PARTNER
Tan Chong Lii
Tan is an experienced partner in the Litigation department of the firm. He graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the University of Manchester in the year of 2007 and has subsequently obtained his Certificate of Legal Practice in the following year. Prior to joining Y Kong, Wong & Partners, Tan has worked in Belden and Robert Low & Ooi. With a track record of 17 years’ experience in the legal practice, he possesses extensive experience particularly in construction law and commercial disputes.
Tan brings to the table his strong negotiation skills and sound litigation background to ensure that high quality legal services are provided to clients at all times. He routinely advises body corporates and individuals in various areas of disputes and also regularly appears at all levels of the Malaysian Courts and as counsel in various briefs. - Served as panel solicitor to a specialist lift corporation, a Malaysian International University, and a public listed company and its group of companies (in the industry of printing and publication of literature and reference books).
- Advised various corporate clients on preparation of corporate agreements, including shareholders’ agreement, licensing agreement, joint venture agreement and others.
Dispute Resolution / Litigation
- Secured victory at the Federal Court and safeguarded a claim by owners to recover their wrongfully transferred lands;
- Secured a critical victory for the Chinese Independent School in defending their land ownership claim.
- Achieved a favorable outcome for a company by securing a compensation amounting to RM20 million for the refund of performance bond and RM12 million for wasted costs.
- Achieved a favorable outcome for an international company by securing a Summary Judgment in the sum of RM3 million for breach of contract.
- Supported counsel in resisting a challenge in Court over an arbitrator’s decision regarding an interim award.
- Achieved a discreet and favorable outcome for a civil engineering firm facing three separate claims totaling approximately RM8 million. Negotiated successful settlements, minimizing financial exposure and protecting the firm’s reputation.
- Supported counsel in a complex legal proceedings against former director and officers of a then listed company for breach of duties and negligence
- Represented a reputable architect firm to recover outstanding fees through strategic application of CIPAA and court enforcement procedures.
- Represented various businesses from multinational corporations to SMEs in their debt recovery efforts, including successfully obtaining judgment and/or settlement.

Siow Chan Wai, Shawn
Shawn is a distinguished partner in the Litigation Department of the firm with an LLB (Hons) from the University of London in 2015 and obtained his Certificate of Legal Practice in 2016. His expertise spans across various litigation areas with a focus on employment law, defamation, breach of trust, and commercial fraud.
With an aim to broaden his legal horizons, Shawn is now actively escalating his practice to include corporate litigation, with a particular emphasis on the liquidation of companies—a field which he grew familiarity with during his chambering period.

- Advised a Malaysian-incorporated subsidiary of Australia security equipment supplier company in relation to all the applicable regulatory compliance for their business operation in Malaysia.
- Advised a Malaysian-based manufacturer on their distributorship agreement with its Singapore-based suppliers for fast moving consumer goods.
- Advised companies on the drafting of their shareholders’ agreements, including one of the biggest group of companies controlling a chain of fashion & lifestyle Watches retailer in Malaysia.
- Advised a company on the applicable data privacy laws in Malaysia and provided the transfer pricing legal documents in Malaysia for a company prior to their public listing corporate exercise.
- Assisted in advising and drafting land purchase and joint venture agreement for a Malaysian developer in an acquisition of portion of a land and an unincorporated joint venture arrangement with the other land owner in a land development in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

Yiennie is a partner of the firm who is experienced in handling real estate and conveyancing matters. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with honors from Multimedia University in 2017. With 6 years’ experience in the industry, Yiennie is regularly engaged by developers, corporate and individual clients for advice and representation in matters relating to real estate and property financing. She has vast experience in advising and representing clients in sale and purchase transactions of mixed developments, landed stratified developments and commercial/ industrial developments with freehold and leasehold titles.
