About

Hong Kiat is Co‑Head of the Construction, Infrastructure and Engineering Practice at Y Kong, Wong & Partners. In 2026, he successfully completed the examinations of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and was formally admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb). Prior to joining the firm, Hong Kiat practised at leading law firms Skrine and Belden, where he built a solid professional foundation.

His areas of practice cover construction law, energy disputes, and international arbitration. He has long been entrusted with complex cases involving power plants, utilities, and large-scale integrated development projects, and possesses extensive practical experience.

Hong Kiat’s practice combines both contentious and advisory work. He appears as counsel in high-value arbitration proceedings and court litigation, and advises on large-scale construction and infrastructure projects with a strong cross-border dimension — particularly where international contractors, investors and Malaysian stakeholders operate within multi-party delivery structures. Drawing on his project delivery insight and engineering experience, he provides commercially practical advice across the full project lifecycle, from procurement and contract structuring through to implementation, risk management and dispute avoidance. He regularly advises on sophisticated contractual and governance frameworks, including construction and EPC arrangements, subcontracting structures, joint ventures and layered risk allocation mechanisms, and has developed particular strength in projects involving international contractors and state‑owned enterprises, especially participants from China undertaking infrastructure and industrial investments in Malaysia.
